Abortion & Circumcision

Planned Parenthood Leaders Admit Under Oath to Harvesting Body Parts From Babies Born Alive

The Center for Medical Progress released horrific new video footage Tuesday showing a Planned Parenthood partner admitting that body parts were harvested from aborted babies who still had beating hearts.

The video exposes the testimonies of several top Planned Parenthood officials and a human tissue procurement company leader during a 2019 sworn legal deposition.

Perhaps the most horrific testimony came from Perrin Larton, the procurement manager of Advanced Bioscience Resources (ABR), which harvests aborted baby body parts at Planned Parenthood facilities in southern California.

In her sworn testimony, Larton admitted that she has seen aborted babies’ hearts “beating independently” after they are born. She also confirmed that some aborted babies’ bodies are fully intact.

Also important to note, ABR sells aborted baby body parts to researchers whose projects are funded by U.S. taxpayers.

Other testimony in the video came from Dr. Deborah Nucatola, the former senior director of medical services for Planned Parenthood nationally. Nucatola was caught in the first Center for Medical Progress video eating salad and sipping wine while talking about how she “crushes” unborn babies’ heads to better harvest their body parts.

A third testimony came from Jon Dunn, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Orange & San Bernardino Counties in California. His affiliate used to work with the fetal tissue companies DaVinci Biosciences and DV Biologics, which were shut down in 2017 after the Orange County District Attorney accused them of illegally selling aborted baby body parts. The companies agreed to close permanently and pay $8 million in a settlement.

Dunn said he knows of one baby was born alive at one of his affiliate’s abortion facilities.

For years now, Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress have been uncovering shocking details about Planned Parenthood’s abortion practices, including the harvesting of aborted baby body parts for research.

Some undercover videos show how Planned Parenthood employees callously and flippantly negotiated the price of tiny baby hearts, lungs, livers and brains. Other evidence indicates the abortion giant may have broken HIPAA patient privacy laws.

The expose videos catching Planned Parenthood officials selling the body parts of aborted babies have shocked the nation. Here is a list of all 14:

  • In the first video: Dr. Deborah Nucatola of Planned Parenthood commented on baby-crushing: “We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact.”

  • In the second video: Planned Parenthood’s Dr. Mary Gatter joked, “I want a Lamborghini” as she negotiated the best price for baby parts.

  • In the third video: Holly O’Donnell, a former Stem Express employee who worked inside a Planned Parenthood clinic, detailed first-hand the unspeakable atrocities and how she fainted in horror over handling baby legs.

  • In the fourth video: Planned Parenthood’s Dr. Savita Ginde stated, “We don’t want to do just a flat-fee (per baby) of like, $200. A per-item thing works a little better, just because we can see how much we can get out of it.” She also laughed while looking at a plate of fetal kidneys that were “good to go.”

  • In the fifth video: Melissa Farrell of Planned Parenthood-Gulf Coast in Houston boasted of Planned Parenthood’s skill in obtaining “intact fetal cadavers” and how her “research” department “contributes so much to the bottom line of our organization here, you know we’re one of the largest affiliates, our Research Department is the largest in the United States.”

  • In the sixth video: Holly O’Donnell described technicians taking fetal parts without patient consent: “There were times when they would just take what they wanted. And these mothers don’t know. And there’s no way they would know.”

  • In the seventh and perhaps most disturbing video: Holly O’Donnell described the harvesting, or “procurement,” of organs from a nearly intact late-term fetus aborted at Planned Parenthood Mar Monte’s Alameda clinic in San Jose, CA. “‘You want to see something kind of cool,’” O’Donnell says her supervisor asked her. “And she just taps the heart, and it starts beating. And I’m sitting here and I’m looking at this fetus, and its heart is beating, and I don’t know what to think.”

  • In the eighth video: StemExpress CEO Cate Dyer admits Planned Parenthood sells “a lot of” fully intact aborted babies.

  • The ninth video: catches a Planned Parenthood medical director discussing how the abortion company sells fully intact aborted babies — including one who “just fell out” of the womb.

  • The 10th video: catches the nation’s biggest abortion business selling specific body parts — including the heart, eyes and “gonads” of unborn babies. The video also shows the shocking ways in which Planned Parenthood officials admit that they are breaking federal law by selling aborted baby body parts for profit.

  • Unreleased Videos: Unreleased videos from CMP show Deb Vanderhei of Planned Parenthood caught on tape talking about how Planned Parenthood abortion business affiliates may “want to increase revenue [from selling baby parts] but we can’t stop them…” Another video has a woman talking about the “financial incentives” of selling aborted baby body parts.

  • The 11th video: catches a Texas Planned Parenthood abortionist planning to sell the intact heads of aborted babies for research. Amna Dermish is caught on tape describing an illegal partial-birth abortion procedure to terminate living, late-term unborn babies which she hopes will yield intact fetal heads for brain harvesting.

  • The 12th video in the series shows new footage of Jennefer Russo, medical director at Planned Parenthood in Orange County, California, describing to undercover investigators how her abortion business tries to harvest intact aborted babies’ bodies for a local for-profit biotech company and changes the abortion procedure to do so.

  • The 13th video: exposes a Planned Parenthood medical director admitting that babies born alive after abortion are sometimes killed.

  • The 14th video: catches Planned Parenthood executives discussing gruesome abortion procedures and the sale of body parts from aborted babies for profit.

  • Planned Parenthood Directors Admit Under Oath That They Sold Aborted Baby Parts

Caught on tape: Planned Parenthood aids pimp’s underage sex ring

NEW JERSEYA Planned Parenthood manager in New Jersey coaches a man and a woman posing as sex traffickers how to secure secret abortions, STD testing, and contraception for their female underage sex slaves, and make their whole operation “look as legit as possible” in an undercover video released this morning.

Clinic manager Amy Woodruff, LPN, of Planned Parenthood Central New Jersey’s Perth Amboy center, warns the pimp and his prostitute to have their trafficked underage girls lie about their age to avoid mandatory reporting laws, promising, “even if they lie, just say, ‘Oh he’s the same age as me, 15,’…it’s just that mainly 14 and under we have to, doesn’t matter if their partner’s the same age, younger, whatever, 14 and under we have to report.” She says, “For the most part, we want as little information as possible.”

Woodruff also recommends how the pimp can get his prostitutes cheaper contraception by claiming they are “students”: “If they’re minors, put down that they’re students. Yeah, just kind of play along that they’re students–we want to make it look as legit as possible.”

If one of the young trafficked girls needs an abortion, Woodruff refers the pimp and prostitute to the Metropolitan Medical Association, where “their protocols aren’t as strict as ours and they don’t get audited the same way that we do.” The prostitute in the video asks how long after the abortion until the girls can have sex again, and when Woodruff says “minimum of 2 weeks,” she asks what sex acts the girls could still do to make money. Woodruff advises, “Waist up, or just be that extra action walking by” to advertise sex to potential clients.

Sex trafficking is punishable under federal law and carries a potential life sentence. The new video is released by Live Action, a pro-life new media organization led by 22-year-old Lila Rose. The video airs just days after Planned Parenthood’s leadership suspected the sting operation and sought an FBI probe of Live Action in order to deter the release of the exposé. Live Action is sending full footage to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, NJ Attorney General Paula Dow, officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and other law enforcement officials, requesting federal and state investigations into Planned Parenthood’s sexual abuse and sex trafficking cover up.

Products That Use Aborted Fetuses

Do some products contain parts of aborted babies?

The short answer is: “Yes.”

However, today’s consumer products are not the soap and lampshades of “recycled” Nazi concentration camp victims that we see in museums. The new utilitarian use of “people as product” is a sophisticated enterprise that is not visible to the human eye.

Perhaps you are a diligent supporter and promoter of pro-life legislation, only vote for pro-life candidates, and avoid entertainment produced by musicians and actors who openly support Planned Parenthood. However, regardless of how strongly you support life, you may unknowingly be cooperating in aborted fetal cell research by purchasing products that use aborted babies either in the product itself or in its development.

Perhaps you take Enbrel (Amgen) to relieve your rheumatoid arthritis. Maybe someone you know was prescribed Zoastavax, a shingles vaccine, at an annual physical. It may be that your mother suffers from diabetes and renal failure and obtains relief from Arensep (Amgen). Perhaps your grandfather was administered the blood product Repro during an angioplasty. Many school districts require that your children receive the MMRII (the Merck Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccine). Your children might enjoy using coffee creamers and eat soup with artificial flavor enhancers (Senomyx and Firmenich) tested on artificial taste buds engineered from aborted fetal cells.

Because of the complexities of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) labeling, you would probably not know that these products use aborted fetal parts unless someone informed you.

Types of Products That Use Aborted Babies

Products related to fetal material can be broken down into three categories: artificial flavors, cosmetics, and medicines/vaccines.

Food and Drink

Food and beverages do not contain any aborted fetal material but may be tastier because of the nature of the research done in their development.

For example, the American biotech company Senomyx has developed chemical additives that can enhance flavor and smell. To do this, they had to produce an army of never-tiring taste testers — that is, flavor receptors engineered from human embryonic kidney cells (HEK-293, a fetal kidney cell line popular in pharmaceutical research).1 These artificial taste buds can tell developers which products are desirable to the public. Their goal is to produce low-sugar and low-sodium products that taste sweet or salty while actually using less sugar or sodium in the product.

Does your Nestle Coffee-mate Pumpkin Spice creamer taste more like autumn? Does your Maggi bouillon taste just like chicken?

Thank Senomyx.

The laboratory-created artificial enhancers do not have to be tested at length by the FDA because the Senomyx chemical “flavor compounds are used in proportions less than one part per million” and can be classified as artificial flavors.2

In 2005, Senomyx had contracts to develop products for Kraft Foods, Nestle, Campbell Soup and Coca-Cola.3 However, pro-lifers boycotted PepsiCo when they discovered that it was cooperating with Senomyx to develop a reduced sugar beverage. This boycott caused Kraft-Cadbury Adams LLC and Campbell Soup to cancel their contracts with Senomyx.

In a 2012 letter to Children of God for Life, PepsiCo stated that “Senomyx does not use HEK cells or any other tissues or cell lines derived from human embryos or babies for research performed on behalf of PepsiCo.” However, the corporation is now working with Senomyx on two products developed with Sweetmyx 617, a new Senomyx sweet taste modifier.

The fountain of youth appears to be…babies.

Commercially, it’s known as processed skin proteins (PSP), developed at the University of Lausanne to heal burns and wounds by regenerating traumatized skin. The fetal skin cell line that PSPs are based on was taken from an electively aborted baby whose body was donated to the University.

Neocutis, a San Francisco-based firm, uses PSP in some of their anti-aging skin products. Its website claims that the trademarked PSP “harnesses the power of Human Growth Factors, Interleukins and other Cytokines, to help deliver state-of-the-art skin revitalization.”

Vaccines and Medications

The Vaccine Chart of the Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute (SCPI) lists dozens of vaccines and medical products that contain aborted fetal cell lines. This chart also lists ethical vaccine alternatives when they are available. The morality of using these vaccines developed from fetal cell lines is a complicated issue, though there are ethical guidelines available.

SCPI is a biomedical research organization headed by Theresa Deisher, who holds a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Physiology from Stanford and has registered 23 patents in the field. Deisher, the first person to identify and patent stem cells from the adult heart, has an insider’s understanding of genetic engineering, having worked for industry leaders such as Amgen, Genetech, and Repligen.4

SCPI “promotes awareness about the widespread use of fetal human material in drug discovery, development and commercialization.” It reveals that no vaccine product is completely pure: “You will find contaminating DNA and cellular debris from the production cell in your final product. When we switch from using animal cells to using human cells we now have human DNA in our vaccines and our drugs.”5

The problem is three-fold:

Aborted baby parts are used for experiments
Cell lines based on aborted babies are used in the production of various products
There is fetal cellular DNA debris in vaccines and medications.

The Fetal Tissue Marketplace

Much research is currently being done with fetal cells. We can deduce this because there is a lucrative market for the parts of unborn babies. In a series of undercover videos, David Daleiden’s Center for Medical Progress exposed Planned Parenthood abortion clinics selling aborted unborn baby parts to investigators posing as medical researchers.

PFIZER LEAKS: Whistleblower Goes On Record, Reveals Internal Emails from Chief Scientific Officer & Senior Director of Worldwide Research Discussing COVID Vaccine … ‘We Want to Avoid Having the Information on the Fetal Cells Floating Out There’

Q3 2021

Vanessa Gelman, Pfizer Senior Director of Worldwide Research: “From the perspective of corporate affairs, we want to avoid having the information on fetal cells floating out there…The risk of communicating this right now outweighs any potential benefit we could see, particularly with general members of the public who may take this information and use it in ways we may not want out there. We have not received any questions from policy makers or media on this issue in the last few weeks, so we want to avoid raising this if possible.”

Gelman: “We have been trying as much as possible to not mention the fetal cell lines…One or more cell lines with an origin that can be traced back to human fetal tissue has been used in laboratory tests associated with the vaccine program.”

Philip Dormitzer, Pfizer Chief Scientific Officer: “HEK293T cells, used for the IVE assay, are ultimately derived from an aborted fetus. On the other hand, the Vatican doctrinal committee has confirmed that they consider it acceptable for Pro-Life believers to be immunized. Pfizer’s official statement couches the answer well and is what should be provided in response to an outside inquiry.”

Melissa Strickler, Pfizer Insider and Manufacturing Quality Auditor: “They’re being so deceptive in their emails, it’s almost like it is in the final vaccine. It just made me not trust it.”

Strickler: I came to Project Veritas because “I have no one else to turn to when my own company won’t be honest with me. What I was told to do was to trust Project Veritas and to go with you guys by lawmakers, by lawyers.”

Strickler has created a GiveSendGo campaign for herself where the public can go and directly support her financially in her time of need.

[NEW YORK – Oct. 6, 2021] Project Veritas released the fifth video in its COVID vaccine investigative series today featuring a sit-down interview with Pfizer insider, Melissa Strickler. She leaked internal emails that show corporate executives telling staff to be secretive about the use of human fetal tissue in laboratory testing of the COVID vaccine.

Pfizer’s Chief Scientific Officer, Philip Dormitzer, admits aborted fetus tissue is used in the company’s vaccine program, but that employees should just stick with Pfizer’s polished narrative omitting any mention of aborted fetal tissue to avoid any issues with the public.

“HEK293T cells, used for the IVE assay, are ultimately derived from an aborted fetus,” Dormitzer said. “On the other hand, the Vatican doctrinal committee has confirmed that they consider it acceptable for Pro-Life believers to be immunized. Pfizer’s official statement couches the answer well and is what should be provided in response to an outside inquiry.”

Robert DeNiro on Tribeca Film Festival VAXXED Controversy: “Grace and I have a child with autism…”

DeNiro’s quote sums up proper American discourse perfectly:

“Grace and I have a child with autism and we believe it is critical that all of the issues surrounding the causes of autism be openly discussed and examined. In the 15 years since the Tribeca Film Festival was founded, I have never asked for a film to be screened or gotten involved in the programming. However this is very personal to me and my family and I want there to be a discussion, which is why we will be screening VAXXED. I am not personally endorsing the film, nor am I anti-vaccination; I am only providing the opportunity for a conversation around the issue.”

When it was announced that “VAXXED” would be screening at the Tribeca Film Festival this year, it was met with some stern opposition.

The film was produced by Andrew Wakefield, who is one of the main opponents of mandatory vaccinations for children. The anti-vaccination movement picked up steam back in 1998 when Wakefield published findings that attributed the combination of measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccines to an increase in autism in young children.

Those findings were found later to be grossly incorrect, they were discredited and Wakefield was stripped of his medical license. Wakefield was found guilty of “abusing a position of trust as a medical practitioner,” and found guilty of “dishonesty” in his studies which ended his career as a medical doctor.

The film’s description states, “Digging into the long-debated link between autism and vaccines, Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe features revealing and emotional interviews with pharmaceutical insiders, doctors, politicians, parents, and one whistleblower to understand what’s behind the skyrocketing increase of autism diagnoses today.”

Wakefield’s official bio connected with the film at TFF reads, “Andrew Wakefield, MB.BS., is an academic gastroenterologist who practiced medicine at the Royal Free in the U.K. publishing over 140 scientific papers.” The bio continues, “In 1995, he was contacted by parents of autistic children with stomach issues; he learned that these conditions often occurred immediately following an MMR vaccine. In pursuit of this possible link, Dr. Wakefield led an initial study of twelve children with both stomach and developmental issues. The report, published in The Lancet, would catapult Wakefield into becoming one of the most controversial figures in the history of medicine.”

So when “Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe” hit TFF this year, you can imagine the outrage from groups that have been fighting the consequences of Wakefield’s work for the last decade.

Now a week following the reveal that VAXXED would be screened at the festival, Robert De Niro has issued a statement. De Niro, as many readers probably already know, is a co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival.

Vaxxed & Vaxxed II

2016 & 2019

In 2013, biologist Dr. Brian Hooker received a call from a Senior Scientist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) who led the agency’s 2004 study on the Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine and its link to autism.

The scientist, Dr. William Thompson, confessed that the CDC had omitted crucial data in their final report that revealed a causal relationship between the MMR vaccine and autism. Over several months, Dr. Hooker records the phone calls made to him by Dr. Thompson who provides the confidential data destroyed by his colleagues at the CDC.

Dr. Hooker enlists the help of Dr. Andrew Wakefield, the British gastroenterologist falsely accused of starting the anti-vax movement when he first reported in 1998 that the MMR vaccine may cause autism. In his ongoing effort to advocate for children’s health, Wakefield directs this documentary examining the evidence behind an appalling cover-up committed by the government agency charged with protecting the health of American citizens.

Interviews with pharmaceutical insiders, doctors, politicians, and parents of vaccine-injured children reveal an alarming deception that has contributed to the skyrocketing increase of autism and potentially the most catastrophic epidemic of our lifetime.

The Circumcision Decision

In my local Mama’s Support Network on Facebook, circumcision is one of 4 issues considered a ‘hot topic’ on which post comments are likely to be locked. Washington’s 12% circumcision rate for newborns is one of the lowest in the country, still every few months a post appears asking for recommendations for doctors to perform the procedure. The lack of basic knowledge many pregnant mamas have about the facts and posited benefits of the procedure is dismaying, but not altogether surprising.

Every expectant parent should know the basic facts about circumcision.

When I attempted to research circumcision during my first pregnancy, I found that it was very difficult. It seemed like everything I found was either vehemently anti-circumcision or vehemently pro-circumcision. Finding basic facts or information about the way that circumcision is viewed in our culture today felt impossible. It didn’t seem to exist. I wasn’t given any information by my obstetrician or the pediatrician I’d chosen for my son. I hope that by providing this information in an objective way, I can help other parents reach an informed decision that’s based on facts and evidence rather than outdated myths or questionable benefits.

Basic Facts

What is male circumcision?

Circumcision is the permanent removal of the foreskin from a boy/man’s penis.

What IS the foreskin and what does it do?

The foreskin is a double-layered fold of skin and mucous membrane that makes up roughly half of the penis’s skin when left intact. Though many people think of it as just an extra flap of skin, in an adult man the foreskin is 12–15 square inches of skin that contains about 20,000 nerve endings. This post on Peaceful Parenting about the difference between a circumcised and intact adult penis is a great resource for comparison photos.

From birth into childhood, the foreskin is adhered to the head of the penis in much the same way a fingernail is adhered to the nail bed. As children grow, the foreskin will begin to retract and un-adhere from the head of the penis. This can happen anywhere between toddlerhood and late teenhood. For almost 80% of boys, it will fully retract on its own by age seven. There is no need to forcibly retract an intact foreskin.

The purpose of the foreskin is to protect the glans and opening to the urethra when the penis is not erect. The foreskin is the male equivalent to the hood of skin that covers and protects the exposed portion of the female clitoris. At maturity, the foreskin is fairly stretchable. It helps to keep the glans, which is the primary sensory part of the penis, moist and protected. In intact males, the glans is an internal organ. The foreskin also helps facilitate sexual intercourse by providing a natural lubricant.

How is a typical circumcision performed?

Several methods of circumcision are practiced depending on the doctor. The first step is for the baby to be restrained, usually on a specially designed board where their arms and legs can be strapped down. Some doctors give a pacifier, sometimes with sugar water, for the baby to suck on. Many doctors administer a local anesthetic by injection or topical cream.

Since the foreskin is adhered to the head of the penis, the first step is placing a tool under the skin and moving it around to create a separation. One of several techniques is then used to cut the foreskin off. Afterward, the infant’s penis will usually be covered with some type of ointment to prevent the raw area from sticking to his diaper or other skin, and wrapped loosely with gauze. The procedure generally takes around 10 minute to perform.

Other options for circumcision outside the hospital include having the procedure performed by a Jewish Mohel, pediatrician, or pediatric urologist. Here are two video examples of routine circumcisions. By their nature, they are graphic:

Is Circumcision Painful for Babies?

Yes. Many studies have been done on pain reception in infants and preemies. In a 2001 study on prevention and management of pain in newborns, researchers found that “NEWBORNS routinely experience pain associated with invasive procedures such as blood sampling, immunization, vitamin K injection, or circumcision.”

Though many doctors inject an anesthetic into the base of the penis before performing the procedure, a 1998 study found that only 45% of respondents said they used anesthesia for circumcision procedures. It can be hard for babies to express their feelings. Some infants seem to experience pain during urination after circumcision. Babies experience pain, and circumcision creates a wound on the baby’s body.

How many babies are circumcised?

In its 2007 report on male circumcision, the World Health Organization estimated that 30% of men age 15 and over worldwide were circumcised. According to the CDC, the rate of male infants leaving the hospital in the United States circumcised after birth has dropped 10% since 1979, and in 2008 stood around 56%. It is difficult to get accurate data on circumcision rates in the United States because not all hospitals report their data: in fact, as low as 5% do, and even with those reports babies born and/or circumcised outside of the hospital setting are not accounted for. Some estimate the circumcision rate in the US has dropped as low as 30%, and the rate is lowest on the Pacific Coast.

Circumcision rates vary greatly by geographic location, with the Midwestern states being highest. States where medicaid does not pay for circumcision tend to have lower rates. This may be because medicaid influenced the market and fewer insurance companies in total will pay for the procedure in those areas, because people do not want to or cannot afford to pay out of pocket for the procedure, because people are paying out of pocket for non-hospital circumcisions, or for some other reason entirely.

Is a circumcised penis cleaner?

A well-cared for penis is cleaner! Circumcised or not, the only way to keep a penis truly clean is through good hygiene. The misconception that intact penises are less clean may come from a misunderstanding about smegma. Smegma is a combination of exfoliated skin cells, skin oils, and moisture that is white in color and sometimes looks ball-like or creamy. Men and women both produce smegma, men under the foreskin, and women around the clitoris and folds of the labia. The presence of smegma on the penis does not indicate poor hygiene.

Far from being unclean, the foreskin is self-cleaning (in the same way the vagina is) since smegma is antiviral and antibacterial. No soap is required, just warm water, especially once the child is older and the foreskin begins to retract on its own. For babies and young children, all that is needed is the usual baths in clean, warm water to keep the area clean. Since the foreskin is adhered, it is not necessary to retract or ‘get under’ the extra skin to clean it.

Is circumcision medically necessary?

There are no health organizations in the world that support routine infant circumcision. Many insurance companies no longer pay for it because it is considered a cosmetic procedure.

In 1999, the American Academy of Pediatrics revised their statement on infant circumcision, saying “Existing scientific evidence demonstrates potential medical benefits of newborn male circumcision; however, these data are not sufficient to recommend routine neonatal circumcision.” However, in 2012, they revised this statement again. Their current statement includes the following:

Evaluation of current evidence indicates that the health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks and that the procedure’s benefits justify access to this procedure for families who choose it.

Although health benefits are not great enough to recommend routine circumcision for all male newborns, the benefits of circumcision are sufficient to justify access to this procedure for families choosing it and to warrant third-party payment for circumcision of male newborns. It is important that clinicians routinely inform parents of the health benefits and risks of male newborn circumcision in an unbiased and accurate manner.

Parents ultimately should decide whether circumcision is in the best interests of their male child. They will need to weigh medical information in the context of their own religious, ethical, and cultural beliefs and practices. The medical benefits alone may not outweigh these other considerations for individual families.

Effectively, they do not support the routine circumcision of infants, but at the same time their official stance is that the benefits outweigh the risks.

Risks and Benefits

When considering risks and benefits of any procedure, you must look at the data. The risks and benefits listed are those most commonly associated with circumcision. Also provided are some statistics and links to further information. Many of the numbers are very small, or have wide ranges, and unfortunately it is sometimes hard to assess their accuracy.

Because circumcisions are often performed in the hospital, and then babies are sent home, complications that arise may not ever be attributed to the circumcision procedure. There is also no requirement on doctors or hospitals to report their circumcision rates. When evaluating statistics, always consider the size of the study, when it was done, and whether the outcomes were statistically significant.

What Are the Risks of Circumcision?

Studies estimate circumcision complication rates at anywhere between 0.1 to 35%, clearly quite a large margin. Though some studies say that the risks of complications from circumcision are as low as 0.1 or 0.2%, The American Academy of Pediatrics says “the true incidence of complications after newborn circumcision is unknown.”

Risks of circumcision include:

  • Excessive bleeding (1 in 1,000)
  • Infection (3 in 5000)
  • Foreskin adhesion (7.8 in 100)
  • Need for subsequent surgery (1 in 1,000)
  • Systemic infection (1 in 4,000)
  • Loss of penis (1 in 1,000,000)
  • Death (as high as 9.01 in 100,000)

Other risks include too much skin being removed resulting in painful erections or restricted growth, too little skin being removed, and scarring.

In addition to the immediate physical risks of complication during circumcision, many studies have been done about the effects of circumcision that may be carried into adulthood. These include possible links to premature ejaculation, sexual difficulties, decrease of sexual pleasure, lasting psychological effects due to trauma, and loss of sexual enjoyment (both for the man and his partner). Reduced sensitivity is a given with circumcision because of the number of nerve ending that are removed during the procedure. Some think that this leads to less satisfaction as adults.

What Are the Benefits of Circumcision?

Reduction in Rates of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Some studies show that there is a decrease in the rate of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in circumcised boys. Boys are significantly less likely than girls to develop UTIs and by age 5, only 1–2% of boys will have had a UTI. Circumcision decreases the risk of a UTI by less than 1%, so though the procedure may help prevent UTIs, the decrease is statistically insignificant. Additionally, in a 2005 study, researchers found that to prevent one UTI, two babies would experience complications from the circumcision procedure.

Reduction in Rates of Penile Cancer

The American Cancer Society’s official guidelines now state that circumcision should not be recommended as a sole way to prevent penile cancer, and that “In weighing the risks and benefits of circumcision, doctors consider the fact that penile cancer is very uncommon in the United States, even among uncircumcised men.” Circumcision does seem to reduce the risk of penile cancer in some cases. Penile cancer occurs in less than 1 man in 100,000 and accounts for less than 1% of cancers in men in the United States.

Reduction in Rates of HIV

Many studies exist regarding the relationship between circumcision and reduction of HIV infection rates in Africa. Whether these studies are relevant to the lives of people who live outside of Africa is questionable. The data is not always easy to interpret, and forming an opinion on the circumcision-HIV issue requires digging into some research. The CDC has found that in the United States, circumcision does not affect the rates of HIV in U.S. men. Here are some other links on HIV and circumcision:

Reduction in Rates of HPV

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) has come into the spotlight in recent years with the development of a vaccine that is now available for teens. HPV is the leading cause of invasive cervical cancer in women. In terms of health, HPV has much more of a potentially damaging effect on females, but males are able to transmit the disease. Some evidence suggests that circumcision reduces the transmission of HPV. This study, done among heterosexual men on 5 continents, found that neither condom usage nor circumcision was associated with the HPV DNA prevalence. In either case, it must be used in tandem with other safe sex practices.

Prevention of Phimosis

Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin is unable to retract. Because a normal foreskin does not retract for many years after birth, a diagnosis of phimosis given at a young age should be carefully considered and possibly suspect. The foreskin remains tight through puberty and this is a normal condition. Less than 2% of adult males experience phimosis and of those, over 75% usually respond well to treatment with steroid creams. Circumcision is a treatment for phimosis, however due to the low occurrence of phimosis in intact adult males, some doctors are starting to prefer it as a solution for only the most difficult cases.

Religious Circumcision

Some religions include circumcision as part of their faith or common religious practices. Circumcision is practiced as a religious rite in Islam, called Khitan, and in Judaism the rite of brit milah is traditionally performed on the infant’s 8th day of life. In all faiths, there are a wide berth of beliefs and practices.

Whatever your faith, it is up to you to decide what is right for you and your family, and how it will fit in with your faith. Resources exist for those who are struggling with this question, including the Jewish Circumcision Resource Center. Christianity is the most prominent religion in the United States. Some think that the bible dictates circumcision, and others believe exactly the opposite.

Social Circumcision

Social aspects of circumcising vs. keeping their baby intact are often have a very strong influence on new parents. These are the aspects that often feel most gutteral and personal to people. Some of the questions parents ask include:

  • Will my son get made fun of?
  • Shouldn’t my husband make this decision, after all, he’s the one with the penis?
  • Isn’t it better to do it now when he won’t remember it?
  • Won’t he be happier if he looks like/matches his father?
  • But his brothers are circumcised, won’t it be a problem if they’re not all the same?

On her blog, birth educator Donna Ryan provides some great answers to some of these questions.

Beyond statistics and studies, the personal experiences of parents who are willing to share can be really helpful. These are individual experiences, and should be taken as such.

My sons are both circumcised, but I no longer believe in circumcision as a routine procedure. I didn’t know then what I know now, and don’t feel that I made the most informed decision I could have. I hope that by sharing these resources, I can help to prevent other parents from feeling the same way.

Male circumcision: pain, trauma and psychosexual sequelae

Infant male circumcision continues despite growing questions about its medical justification. As usually performed without analgesia or anaesthetic, circumcision is observably painful. It is likely that genital cutting has physical, sexual and psychological consequences too. Some studies link involuntary male circumcision with a range of negative emotions and even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Some circumcised men have described their current feelings in the language of violation, torture, mutilation and sexual assault. In view of the acute as well as long-term risks from circumcision and the legal liabilities that might arise, it is timely for health professionals and scientists to re-examine the evidence on this issue and participate in the debate about the advisability of this surgical procedure on unconsenting minors.

Neonatal male circumcision is associated with altered adult socio-affective processing

Neonatal male circumcision is a painful skin-breaking procedure that may affect infant physiological and behavioral stress responses as well as mother-infant interaction. Due to the plasticity of the developing nociceptive system, neonatal pain might carry long-term consequences on adult behavior. In this study, we examined whether infant male circumcision is associated with long-term psychological effects on adult socio-affective processing.

Our findings resonate with the existing literature suggesting links between altered emotional processing in circumcised men and neonatal stress. Consistent with longitudinal studies on infant attachment, early circumcision might have an impact on adult socio-affective traits or behavior.

The Bizarrely Profitable Business Of Baby Foreskins

In A Nutshell

There exists a Holy Grail in the cosmetic industry to create a cream that sheds years off your skin. Scientists have discovered such a ingredient, fibroblast cells. Fibroblasts cause the skin to regrow the elasticity and elegance of youth for whoever uses a fibroblast-based cream. What is the best source for these wonder cells? Baby foreskins.

The Whole Bushel

In the movie Fight Club, when Tyler Durden talks about his infamous soap made from human fat, he wasn’t making stuff up. While Tyler Durden is himself a fictional character, human fat soap is real. But making human blubber into soap isn’t where the cosmetic companies stop. No, there is a secret precursor to a lotion that guarantees youthful-looking skin. This Holy Grail for skin creams is one that recreates the smooth, wrinkle-free skin that so many lust after. And 50 percent of the population has what the cosmetic companies need. It’s not fat, but it’s another body part that some of us just want to get rid of right away: the foreskin. That’s right, the tip of the penis that is cut off in religious ceremonies throughout the world is really a fountain of youth, and actually one of the best sources of fibroblasts.

Fibroblasts are what cosmetic companies have been looking for all these years. They are the key to growing new skin and are therefore widely used for skin grafts, pasting skin transplants over sores, and other skin conditions, which makes them great for cosmetic applications. One baby foreskin can be stretched to grow almost $100,000 worth of fibroblasts.

Big names are coming out to get behind these products, including the biggest name of all, Oprah. Oprah famously endorsed one company’s lotion on her show and website as a miracle cream. The company, called SkinMedica, saw soaring profit and this prompted anti-circumcision groups to follow her around and protest her use and promotion of foreskin cream. Granted, SkinMedica’s lotion uses the cells from one original baby foreskin harvested years ago, but just think about it: With Oprah’s plug, millions of women around the world are smearing cream from the foreskin of one guy all over their faces.

3 Ways Corporations Profit Off Harvesting Baby Foreskin

It is estimated that a single male foreskin can retail for around $100,000, which means that companies like SkinMedica – who use baby foreskin to create their skin care product – sell their foreskin facial creams for $150 an ounce.

Now, you also have companies like Pfizer—the creator of Viagra— making money off of Erectile Dysfunction that is directly linked to circumcision. So if you’re wondering why various institutions are backing such a barbaric practice, think about the amount of money being made. Is it really ethical to rob a male of their sexual pleasure in the name of religion or profit?

Now that we live in the age of information—and we have the evidence that conclusively shows that routine circumcision is heinous— there is no reason to continue this horrendous practice. We must remove the idea that babies need to be primed like domesticated dogs as soon as they come out of a woman. We must remove the blade from the birthing process, and stop mutilating children for no justifiable reason.

Sandra Bullock talks about getting the ‘penis facial’ that’s taking over Hollywood — and it’s as weird as it sounds

“She explains that the serum is made of “an extraction from a piece of skin that came from a young person far, far away,” before DeGeneres jumps in to say, “it’s foreskin from a Korean baby.

“EGF is derived from the progenitor cells of the human fibroblast taken from Korean newborn baby foreskin – which helps to generate collagen and elastin,” Louise writes on her website. “FDA approved stem cells and peptides are penetrated deep into the skin using a special electric micro-needling wand.”
